The Cap du Dramont with unique view on the Ile d’Or: a great outing from Camping Oasis Village in Puget-sur-Argens !
Out camping? Discover the pearls of Saint-Raphaël: The Cap du Dramont and the Ile d’Or
At half an hour driving from Camping Oasis Village you’ll find one of the nicest spots of France. The typical red rocks of the Cap du Dramont at the coast of Saint-Raphaël offer plenty of hiking possibilities! The various tracks along the pretty harbour of Poussaï or the beach of Camp Long, offer a breathtaking view. Here you can measure the red rhylite of the Esterel Massif and the blue ‘estérellite’ pebbles at the D-Day beach. Enjoy the abundant local flora: spider plants, rock-roses, French lavender… all these plants evoke the Mediterranean Sea. Also visit the still functioning Semaphore.
The Ile d’Or: a unique landscape and inspiration for Hergé
From the Cap du Dramont the Ile d’Or nearby is clearly visible: most likely the island inspired Hergé to create the Tintin volume The Black Island! This sarrasin style tower dominating the rocks definitely stimulates the imagination. The privately owned tower is not open to the public, but it may be observed from the coastal path. It was built in 1912 by a doctor called Auguste Lutaud, who won the island by playing a game of cards and who proclaimed himself king August the 1st of the island!
